As Activision shifts its focus to Warzone 2, the franchise’s latest battle royale title, many players are left wondering whether they can still experience the original Warzone in 2023.
While Warzone 2 offers a new and exciting experience, some players still crave the mechanics and weapons from the first installment. However, Warzone 1 was taken offline in November 2022, following the release of Warzone 2. So, can you still play Warzone 1 in 2023 ?

Can You Still Play Warzone 1 ?

Yes, it is possible to play Warzone 1 in 2023 with its re-release under the new title, Warzone Caldera. However, it is no longer available as a standalone game and has become a game mode within Modern Warfare 2019.
Therefore, you will need to download Modern Warfare to access Warzone Caldera. Unlike its previous free-to-play status, new players will have to purchase Modern Warfare 2019 to play Warzone Caldera.
Only players who have played Warzone 1 before its temporary removal on November 16 can drop in for free. Warzone Caldera features only the Caldera map after the removal of Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep Resurgence maps. Progression remains separate from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, and players can carry over their previous progression from Warzone 1.
Warzone Mobile, expected in 2023, will bring back Verdansk, and Warzone 2 will receive its first Resurgence map with the Season 2 update.
How to Download and Play Warzone 1 in 2023 ?

Here are the key points for downloading and playing Warzone 1 (now known as Warzone Caldera) in 2023 on different platforms:
PlayStation: Search for “Warzone Caldera” on the PlayStation Store and download the game. If you previously installed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from a disc, delete the installation before accessing Warzone. You will need around 100 GB of free space to install the game on PlayStation.
Xbox: Go to the Xbox Store and search for Warzone Caldera to download the game. The installation size is approximately 98GB on Xbox.
Battle.net (PC): Open the Battle.net client, navigate to Modern Warfare, and tick the box labeled ‘Warzone Caldera’ under the ‘Manage Content’ tab. You will need at least 100GB of free space to install the game.
Note that Warzone Caldera is no longer available as a standalone title and is now a game mode within Modern Warfare 2019. Therefore, you need to have Modern Warfare installed to play Warzone Caldera.
